Account Verification

Account Verification: Proving Domain Ownership

At Mubdie, keeping contact details and account ownership up to date is critical for account security and service continuity, especially during business transitions or when delegating account management to another person. The following outlines the procedures you should follow as an account owner to prove domain ownership or to update the primary contact or primary email.

Important Notes Before You Begin

  • ICANN enforces a 60‑day Change of Registrant (CoR) lock automatically if the registrant name, registrant email address, or organization name is changed. Mubdie cannot remove or expedite this lock.
  • For more information about the CoR lock and ICANN procedures, please consult ICANN’s official guidance on registrant changes.

1. Changing the Primary Contact

Role of the Primary Contact

  • The primary contact is the legal representative with full authority to manage the account.
  • If a company owns the account and you need to change the primary contact, the current primary contact should log in and perform the change. Submit a Primary Contact Replacement request only if the current primary contact cannot perform the change or is no longer associated with the business.

Required Documents (all documents must be full‑color scans/photos)

  1. Government‑issued photo ID (valid, unexpired) for the person to be appointed as the primary contact.
  2. Two organizational documents (non‑personal). Any of the following, and the organization’s address on these documents must match the address in the supporting documents:
    • Utility bill dated within 90 days.
    • Business license.
    • Certificate of incorporation or commercial registration.
    • Tax return or tax identification document.

User ID

  • If you already have a user ID, do not create a new one. Multiple user IDs can be merged if needed.

How to Submit a Primary Contact Replacement (PCR) Request

  1. Visit the “What are you trying to do?” page.
  2. Select “Replace Primary Contact” and click Continue.
  3. Enter the domain name and click Continue.
  4. Follow one of these paths:
    • If you have an existing user ID: enter it and click Continue.
    • If you do not have an existing user ID: create a new user ID and password, confirm the password, click “Create Account,” then complete your profile.
  5. Upload the required documents, check the “I am not a robot” and “I agree to these terms” boxes, then click Submit.
  6. A confirmation page will indicate your request was submitted; we will review it and contact you by email.

Operational note: Ensure the address on the photo ID matches the address on the supporting organizational documents.

2. Changing the Primary Email Address

Managing the Primary Email

  • You may update your account’s primary email address via the Account Manager.

When to Use the Documented Email‑Update Process
Use this process when one of the following applies:

  • Your registered email address is no longer valid.
  • You cannot access the account with your current login credentials.
  • You cannot access the registered email address.

Required Documents to Update an Email Address

  • Government‑issued color photo ID (valid, unexpired) for the person requesting the update.
  • A utility bill dated within 90 days (phone, water, electricity, gas, etc.).

Acceptable Alternative Supporting Documents (if no recent utility bill is available)

  • Lease agreement.
  • Credit card statement dated within 90 days.
  • Bank statement dated within 90 days.
  • Vehicle insurance document (policy or invoice) showing name and address.
  • Vehicle registration.
  • Student/worker visa.
  • Cancelled check.

Operational note: The address on the supporting document must match the address on the photo ID.

How to Submit an Email Replacement (CER) Request by Form

  1. Visit the “What are you trying to do?” page.
  2. Select “Replace Contact Email” and click Continue.
  3. Enter your user ID and the domain name, then click Continue.
  4. Provide your first name, last name, phone number, and the new email address.
  5. Upload the required documents, check the required boxes, and click Submit.
  6. You will receive confirmation that your request was submitted; we will review the documents and contact you by email.

3. Changing Domain Ownership (Change of Registrant / CoR)

What CoR Is

  • Change of Registrant (CoR / RNCA) transfers ownership of a domain name from one Mubdie account to another. This process applies only to the domain name itself and does not necessarily transfer hosting plans, email services, or other products.

CoR Locks and Their Effect

  • To protect domains from hijacking, ICANN applies a CoR lock. If you are the registrant or account owner, any updates to the registrant name, registrant email address, or organization name will trigger a 60‑day CoR lock for associated domains.

Updating WHOIS Information

  • You can update WHOIS contact details for domains you registered or purchased through Mubdie via the Account Manager. See our help article on updating and verifying WHOIS for detailed instructions.

Summary and Timeline

  • To verify ownership of a domain or an account, gather the required documents and submit the appropriate request as outlined above.
  • We typically review submitted documentation within up to three (3) business days and will notify you of the outcome. Additional verification may extend this timeline.
  • Remember that certain changes may trigger a 60‑day CoR lock under ICANN rules, which Mubdie cannot override.
